The Giro Olive Floral Collection

Subdued Attitude

In the arid landscape between Palm Springs and Joshua Tree National Monument sits the town of Joshua Tree. It’s an oasis of sorts; a place where the desert yields to dust-swept streets, faded mid-century architecture, antique automobiles and the bold desert dwellers who have carved out a community between the dry infinity of the Mojave and the decadence of Los Angeles. It’s a place where artists, story tellers and prickly prospectors thrive with a colorful attitude, in spite of the conditions.

When you think of the desert, flowers are probably not the first thing that springs to mind. The extremes of the landscape burn too hot for some to handle, subduing colors and spirits in all but the heartiest creatures. But amid the cacti, the rocks and the reptiles, if you look closely enough you will eventually find something unexpected… something like a cache of vintage Hawaiian shirts, hanging in the shaded back room of a roadside thrift shop, calling to you with the lush color and warmth of the aloha spirit. Something simultaneously so out of place it was hard to take seriously, and yet irresistibly inviting.
We set out to do something different with cycling kit design, and the desert did not disappoint. Listen in as Tyler Grobowsky from the Giro Design Team explains the inspiration, and the hand-work behind this limited-edition Giro Studio collection.
