Introducing the Emerge MIPS Helmet
Giro Emerge MIPS freestyle helmet offers supreme protection
Giro Sport Design, the leader in high-performance snow helmets and goggles, is proud to introduce the new Emerge™ MIPS helmet for the 2018-19 winter season, delivering to freestyle riders the same revolutionary protection used by top World Cup FIS racers. Featuring D2 Construction, EPP liner and MIPS Spherical, an evolution of MIPS co-developed by Giro and MIPS, the Emerge features a low-profile shell with a trusted freestyle shape.
“The Emerge MIPS, is our new ultimate freestyle helmet featuring D2 dual density EPP construction and MIPS Spherical to match the demanding needs of our freestyle team,” Giro Snow Product Line Manager Mattia Berardi said. “One of the key features of this helmet is MIPS Spherical, which is also a feature of our super High-End Alpine Racing helmet, the Avance MIPS. It is very exciting to think that riders across the entire spectrum – from racing to freestyle – who need the highest performing product can now wear our MIPS Spherical models.”
MIPS Spherical is a manifestation of the Multi-Directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) technology that builds on their decades of research and study into the causes of brain injuries. Co-developed by Giro at The Dome in Scotts Valley, CA and MIPS in Stockholm, Sweden, the two layers of dual density EPP foam act as a ball-and-socket allowing for movement of several millimeters in any direction for the effective reduction of rotational energy during certain impacts.
D2 Construction pairs two densities of Expanded Polypropylene (EPP) foam to manage both high- and low-energy impacts. Additionally, EPP offers impressive resilience – this crushable foam regains its shape and retains some of its protective qualities after multiple impacts.
In Emerge MIPS, D2 Construction combines with MIPS Spherical to set a new standard in freestyle helmet design. With its sleek, low profile aesthetic and groundbreaking under-the-hood technology, Emerge MIPS has become the first choice of top pros around the globe.
The Emerge MIPS debuts at the X-Games and at the Olympics on athletes like Torin Yater-Wallace, Mike Riddle, Gabe Ferguson, Brita Sigourney, Devin Logan & Maddie Mastro.
