(20 September 2012– Scotts Valley, CA) – Kicking off the North American cyclocross season in style, Giro, the cycling world’s design leader since 1985, has found immediate success at Cross Vegas. After Rabobank-Giant’s Sann Van Paasen made a last lap surge to take the victory in the women’s race while wearing the new Air Attack™ helmet, Team Rapha-FOCUS rider and USA National Champion Jeremy Powers turned in a dominant performance in his Giro Aeon™ helmet and Gauge™ shoes, riding away from an elite group of five riders with just over two laps left and soloing in for the win.

“’Cross Vegas is always a special event because we get to celebrate the beginning of cyclocross season with all our industry friends who are in town attending the Interbike trade show,” said Eric Richter, Giro Senior Brand Manager. “It was extra special this year to see our USA National Champion Jeremy Powers ride to the win in his custom Aeon™ after Sanne Van Passen took top honors in the women’s event wearing the Air Attack™, a helmet that now has found the top step of the podium in road, track, and cyclocross disciplines. It’s a great start to the season and we expect more excitement from Giro riders, all the way up to Cyclocross World Championships in Louisville, Kentucky this coming February.”

With a systematic approach to design and wind tunnel–tested performance, the Air Attack™ offers reduced aerodynamic drag, light weight and tremendous cooling power. Taken together, these factors can help riders to use their power more efficiently, creating what Giro calls “Free Speed”. The Air Attack™ will be available in two versions – including one with a magnetically-anchored optical shield, with MSRP of $200 USD and $240 USD respectively. The helmet will be available in Spring 2013.

The leading combination of light weight, comfort, and cooling performance, The Giro Aeon™ sets a new standard for road helmets. At a mere 222 grams in CPSC-certified medium the Aeon™ features an innovative thermoformed Roll Cage reinforcement, the luxurious feel of Roc Loc 5, and 24 Wind Tunnel vents that makes wearing the Aero™ cooler than wearing no helmet at all. It is available for $250 MSRP.
