GRINDURO! Cycling Celebration Returns to Quincy, California

Giro Sport Design has partnered with Charge Bikes and SRAM to bring Grinduro back to Quincy, California. On Saturday, October 8, 650 riders will experience Grinduro’s unique blend of bike racing and festival good times.

Registration opens on Sunday, April 17 at 8 PM PST www.GRINDURO.com.

The inaugural Grinduro was voted “Event of the Year” by Enduro Magazine, and this year’s event builds on that success with the addition of a shorter route option and confirmed musical guests La Luz.

Participants will experience two days of fine food, camping, live music, an art and handmade bike show, and a unique style of competition that combines the best elements of a mountain bike enduro and a gravel grinder road race. The primary route includes a 60-mile loop with 8,000 feet of climbing, but overall loop times will not be considered, as race results will only be taken from four timed segments on surfaces that vary from smooth pavement to loose gravel to dirt roads. New for 2016 is a half-distance, non-timed route for riders that want to save some strength for the nighttime festivities. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship.

“We’re proud to be a presenting sponsor of Grinduro,” said James Hamilton, Charge Bikes Global Marketing Manager. “Grinduro fits perfectly with the Charge philosophy: riding is all about how much fun you have and what could be better than a festival weekend riding the Event of the Year and celebrating with a well earned beer or two at the end?”

While the race format will mimic the inaugural event (with a gran fondo-style mass start and a series of timed segments), details of the actual timed segments will not be released until two weeks prior to race day. “Last year it seemed like everyone had a different interpretation of the ultimate Grinduro bike, because no one knew what to expect,” said event promoter, Dain Zaffke. “We want to retain some of that mystery and excitement instead of simply replicating the original.”

With male and female categories including Pro, Expert, Junior, Master and Singlespeed, Grinduro champions will be well-rounded riders who can descend as well as they can climb.
Back at the fairgrounds, attendees will be treated to live music, excellent food, and displays of hand-built components and bicycles from craftsmen such as Black Cat, Blue Collar, Caletti, Falconer, Paul Components, Rex, Soulcraft, White Industries and others. Presenting sponsors Giro, Charge and SRAM will also be displaying their finest wares and limited edition Grinduro merchandise.

Registration opens on Sunday, April 17, at 8pm (PDT) and cost $200 for the weekend including race entry, camping, music and breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday.
